Mobile Phone Policy

Helping Students Stay Focused, Engaged, and Making Real Progress

At Dragon Study Tours, we are committed to creating an immersive, distraction-free environment where students can focus on improving their communication skills, building confidence, and making the most of their experience. To uphold this, we have implemented a strict mobile phone policy, modelled on the approach used at Eton College, one of the UK’s leading schools.

Eton has long recognised the importance of minimising digital distractions to foster better communication, concentration, and personal development. Their policy ensures that students engage fully in learning rather than relying on their phones. At Dragon Study Tours, we follow this same philosophy to help students maximise their potential and achieve real progress in English.

  1. No Mobile Phones in the Language Centre

  • Students must not bring mobile phones into the Language Centre.
  • Phones must be stored in the secure lockbox in their accommodation before lessons begin at 08:30.
  • Rooms will be locked, and DST staff will monitor access to ensure compliance.

  1. Mobile Phone Access Times

  • Phones will be returned at 11:40, after lessons, allowing 15 minutes for students to check messages and reply to parents before excursions or afternoon activities begin.
  • Phones may be used in the evenings in accommodation, but students are encouraged to prioritise rest and time away from screens.

  1. The Role of Group Leaders and Language Travel Agents

We implore group leaders to assist in enforcing this policy and expect language travel agents to explain it thoroughly to parents before committing to a booking. It is essential that all parties understand and respect our approach.

This policy is not optional—we take it very seriously because we want:

  • Parents to achieve value for money – they are investing in their child’s education and personal development.
  • Students to improve their English – constant mobile phone use hinders progress, reducing the benefits of immersive learning.

Eton College enforces similar measures to ensure that students develop strong communication skills, discipline, and independence—qualities that are essential for academic and personal growth. By following their model, we ensure that students at Dragon Study Tours receive the same high standard of immersive education.

  1. Emergency Contact for Parents

  • Parents will receive emergency contact numbers for the DST team to reach students if needed.
  • If urgent communication is necessary during lesson hours, our staff will facilitate this.

  1. Consequences for Non-Compliance

  • Any student who brings a phone into the Language Centre will have their device confiscated.
  • Repeat violations may result in further restrictions at the discretion of the DST team.

This policy is non-negotiable because we are dedicated to ensuring that every student maximises their experience with us. Eton College has shown that limiting mobile phone use leads to better academic results, stronger discipline, and a more focused learning environment. We follow this best practice because we want every student to leave Dragon Study Tours with improved English and meaningful progress in their communication skills.
